REIMAGINING OBJECTS

Objects when re-imagined, can uncover an entire world, carefully hidden in between the reflection of a smoothly functioning society. It is the desire to go deeper that exposes the truth behind our intricately crafted reality. This section of the blog attempts to deal with these truths and moving beyond just dealing, by presenting the idea of a more complete and sensitive world. Combining their design sensibilities with a thorough understanding of the system that revolves around their chosen objects, the creators of these works have made a sincere attempt at re-defining the way we look at these objects by changing the form of these objects. Immersing themselves in a process of research and iterations, their statement speaks of a desire to change the norm, in a lasting and meaningful way.

Karishma's exploration into the ecosystem surrounding the pen was focussed on the impact of discarding and recycling the materials involving in making pens and the ways in which pens are used. She has channeled the insights from her research into attempting a re-design of the pen, using eco friendly and cost effective materials.

YOU - Your Own Umbrella

An umbrella serves the purpose of protection, sheltering us from the sun, the rain, the wind for years on end. It has also happened to become synonymous with femininity, royalty, privilege and patriarchy among others. The notion that an individual must be able to express themselves gave rise to YOU, Your Own Umbrella, an umbrella individualized to serve your needs for function and your right to express yourself through objects that surround you.

Multi Purpose Solar Umbrella

The multipurpose solar umbrella repositions the whole concept of an umbrella. The idea behind the design is to seek the attention of the customers and to create an eco-friendly umbrella. Equipped with special features like a solar panel, LED lights, fan, storage, charging point, speakers and wheels, these features make the umbrella a source of energy, light, wind and music. The highlight of this umbrella is the ability to convert solar energy into electrical energy, which is later used by devices including lights, speakers and charging point. Targeted towards the hospitality industry and the unorganized sector, this umbrella has been redesigned as a more sustainable option for the future.

Panorama: Redesigning Pushcarts

Push carts represent a fragile system, a system that has been neglected for far too long. They are symbolic of a tradition that has slowly faded away with the birth of a modern society. My journey revolves around understanding the world behind this system of push carts and a community that has been marginalized from an exclusive idea of development. Panorama is a short book that takes the reader through my encounters with this system and the people who have been directly impacted by it. I have tried to replicate the exact experience of a push cart with an attempt to bring pre-conceived notions to the fore, while Panorama defines the journey of breaking through.
